Whaleshark snorkelling: A humbling experience

Year round, here at Guinjata we’re used to a lot of cool stuff.

But snorkeling for more than half an hour with a whaleshark, gently propelling itself through the water is even for us an extraordinary and humbling experience.

Today was one of such extraordinary days:

We discovered the whaleshark during one of our ocean safaris in the shallow sandy waters, just off the reef.

While those huge fishes (whalesharks are the biggest fish in the world) are usually very relaxed, they still move. So it is kind of a workout to follow them for a while.

Now this whaleshark was really, really relaxed. Moving gently it allowed us to follow with snorkelers and boat for 45 minutes until we decided to leave.

This whaleshark even gave us enough time to let our  skipper take a short dive: 🙂

And all that on the same day and on the same ocean safari when we encountered the humpback whale mama and her calf. What a day!
